Yes , You can join your son/ daughter anytime.
On most of the camps, we cook as a pack and bring a trailer that has our canopy and outdoor stoves . Others trips , like the zoo, involve buying food there, and others there is a camp kitchen where we get meals.
In the Cub Scouts we teach them fire safety, knife skills, first aid, cooking and leadership skills. This is helpful as a teenager or an adult as everybody needs the first four to survive and be self sufficent.
We need people to help organize events, stay in contact with schools, manage the awards, be the treasurer, make sure leaders are trained, help purchase supplies. You can even donate supplies.
If they earn each of their required awards, then at the end of the school year they earn their rank award. Regardless of that, they move up to the next level the following year. In Scouting America, troops operate different. There they work independently on merit badges and rank up when they are ready.
Each grade level is a different rank in Cub scouts. In Kindergarten, they are Lions, First Grade is Tigers, then Wolves (2nd grade), Bears (3rd grade) , Webelos (4th grade) and finally in 5th grade they are Arrow of Light scouts. When they have completed the requirements for that level, they earn the rank badge. So if a 2nd grader completes theirs, they receive the Wolf Patch and rank.
If they miss an activity, they can make it up at home if they choose. Parents can sign off that their child did the activity.
